How to uninstall PS4 games

How to uninstall PS4 games

Have you finished a game on your PlayStation 4 and no longer want to see it on the main screen? Do you need space on your PS4 and a title is taking up a large part of the console's hard drive? There is no doubt: the solution to your problem is the deletion of unnecessary titles from the internal memory of the PlayStation. Don't worry: this is a very simple operation that requires very few minutes of free time.

To be able to complete this operation, you just have to read and put into practice the instructions described in this guide on how to uninstall PS4 games . As a final result, you will be able to have more space on your console and finally you will no longer see that game that you did not like very much in the main screen. In case you are wondering, it will be possible to reinstall that title later, whether you have it in digital or physical copy.
Courage: what are you waiting for? Take five minutes of free time and follow the short procedures below. I can assure you that deleting a game from PS4 is not difficult at all and that you can go back to playing other titles (or installing new ones) in no time. There is nothing left for me to do, except to wish you happy reading and have fun!

How to delete games on PS4

If you need to free up space on the memory of your PlayStation 4 but do not know  how to uninstall games on PS4 , take a few minutes of free time and put into practice the instructions below.
First of all, look for the title to be deleted: the latter can be found directly on the main screen of the PS4 or, if you haven't played for a long time, in the Collection folder . Now all you have to do is press the Options button on the controller above the game icon to be deleted and select the Delete option from the screen that opens.

Now press the X button on the controller above the word OK  and, in a few seconds, the selected game will be deleted from your PlayStation 4. The relative saves will still remain inside the console hard disk, so you can start again where you left off ( in case of second thoughts ).
As previously mentioned, you can eventually download the game from the PlayStation Store (if you had purchased it digitally) or reinstall it via disk (if you had purchased a physical copy).

How to uninstall PS4 game saves

Is saving a video game corrupt and won't allow you to move on? Were there any bugs (errors) during the adventure and did you get stuck? Don't worry: the operating system of the PlayStation 4 allows you to delete game saves in no time.
Just go to the upper toolbar and press the X button on the controller above the Settings icon . Then select Storage Memory and choose the hard drive where the saves are present. In the absence of an external hard drive, simply select System Storage Memory . Now press the X button on the controller above the word Data Saved .

You will be presented with the list of game saves you have played. You just have to select the game icon of your interest, press the Options button on the controller above it and choose the Delete option  from the menu that opens.
Finally, press the X button on the controller to check the box next to the save file, select the Delete option again  and press the X button on the controller to OK . Perfect, you have deleted the data you wanted. Happy?

How to delete PS4 game updates

For some reason, did you have more fun playing the first version of a game? Did an update corrupt a title, which now no longer works well? Perhaps there is a solution (although not quite comfortable and quite limited): if you have the physical copy of the title, you can delete its updates.
To do this, all you have to do is uninstall the game of your interest (following the instructions described in the chapter on how to delete games on PS4 ) and reinsert the disc inside the console. I recommend keeping the PlayStation 4 offline , as the operating system will otherwise start downloading the update you removed each time the game is started.

To temporarily disconnect from the network, you must go to the upper toolbar , press the controller's X button on Settings , select Network and remove the check mark located next to the word Connect to the Internet .
When you want to go back to playing online, just activate this check again. For more information, I suggest you take a look at my tutorial on how to play online on PS4 .

In case of second thoughts

How do you say? Did you uninstall a game but thought about it and want to go back to that adventure? Don't worry: reinstalling a deleted title is a trivial operation, no matter what version you have.
In case you have a physical copy of the game, simply insert the disc into the PS4 player and the console will automatically install the game again. As for the digital version, just press the X button on the controller above the PlayStation Store icon and select the word Search mail in the top bar of the application.
Now, write the game title and select the related icon from the list that appears on the right. After that, you just have to press the X button on the controller above the word Download .

Perfect, now the download of the title will start and you can go back to playing in no time (the times vary according to the "weight" of the game and the Internet connection available to you).

Alternative solutions

If you don't want to deprive yourself of any games but, at the same time, you don't want to run out of disk space on the PS4, you can take advantage of an external hard drive to expand the console's memory. The operation is trivial and does not take long to be put into practice.
Before proceeding, make sure that your external hard drive supports the USB 3.0 standard and has at least 250GB of internal memory. In case you don't know, I suggest you consult the instruction manual. In addition to this, you must know that only one external device can be connected at a time and that the configuration as a disk for PS4 will  erase all the data present on the hard disk connected to the console.

Having said that, let's take action. If you want to extend the memory of the PS4 with an external hard disk, connect the latter to one of the USB ports of the console, go to the upper toolbar and press the X button on the controller above the Settings icon .
Then select the Devices option and then the  USB storage devices option  . At this point, choose your hard disk from the list and press the X button on the controller above the word Format as extended storage memory . Then press successively on Next , Format and Yes . Wait for the formatting to finish and press the X button on the controller above OK .

To set the external hard disk as the default storage space for the PS4, all you have to do is go to the Storage memory section  of the settings, press the Options button on the controller above Extended storage memory and select the Storage location option  . installation of the application that appears on the screen.
Perfect: you have correctly configured your hard disk and the next games that you will install on the PS4 (with the related data) will be saved directly on the external device. Happy?
